Caring for the little things like your bras and underwear can make a huge difference in the way they fit and last. If you’re the type of gal that’s constantly buying new lingerie every month because of constant wear-and-tear, consider the way you wash and care for them. Are you putting your wired-bras in the dryer? Are you using harsh detergents? Check out Cover Girl Shapewear’s four easy tips to care for your lingerie and make them last longer than before.
If the care instructions call for it, you should not be using any harsh detergents on your lingerie. This includes bleach and chlorine. The last thing you want is your bras and underwear getting discolored or the material getting ruined. You can also use white vinegar for a natural alternative.
Along with using a mild detergent to wash your lingerie, hand washing is the best method to go when laundering them. Hand washing is fairly easy and quick, but if you’re a busy gal that doesn’t have the time, be sure to put them in a lingerie bag (mesh bag) and wash separately on a cold, delicate cycle. In addition, try to avoid overwashing your bras and alternate between your favorite bras instead.
Key tip: Hook your bras together to avoid snagging on other materials.
Try avoiding tumble-drying as much as possible. This can damage your bras (especially if they have wires) and can cause them to lose its quality shape. If your underwear has lace or embellishments, this can also ruin them. Instead, hang them up to dry in your laundry room or leave them out to air dry outside to help keep its shape and details.
Your bras and underwear is an investment, so treat them well by placing them in a separate storage space or drawer. Stow your bras neatly on top of each other so they maintain their shape and to avoid unflattering lines when you finally wear them.
